Minutes of WASP House of Delegates

Date: September 18, 1999 (Saturday)
Place: Anhembi, Sao Paulo, Brazil
  1. Meeting was convened at 09:00 am, and a quorum was declared by Dr. Mori, Secretary-General.
  2. Apologies for absence noted Dr. Petralia now in attendance with Bureau members as noted in minutes of the Bureau meeting of September 16, 1999.
  3. Minutes of Bureau meetings of July 1998 and September 16, 1999 briefly summarized by Dr. Zeiler with notation that all arising matters for action would be presented to the House under Roberts Rules of Order.
  4. Reports of Officers: Reports of all officers repeated the reports as given to the Bureau on September 16, 1999. Dr. Merten added the report that at the previous days meeting with Dr. McQueen, President of IFCC, there was agreement on language defining directorship of laboratories, the specific language of which will follow that agreed upon by Dr. Merten's Committee on Accreditation, and will be further distributed to the member societies. Dr. Hoffman's Treasure's report was formally accepted.
  5. Administrative Committees Report: All reports were repeated as presented to the Bureau.
  6. Categorical Committees and Secretariat Reports : ALI reports were repeated as presented to the Bureau. Dr. Cordner was present and further amplified his written presentation, and was commended for his efforts in Forensic Pathology education and his personal efforts on behalf of WHO and UN in investigative autopsy work evaluating terrorism.
  7. Dr. Zeiler announced the Awards Committee report that Dr. Hans Reinauer would be awarded the highest WASP award of the Gold Headed Cane for his extensive work on behalf of WASP at the September 19, 1999 evening meeting. Dr. Heuck reviewed his comments about cooperation with WHO. Discussed were topics on The WHO International external quality assessment scheme in immunology, a workshop in Oman on Quality management training in development countries.
  8. Training courses on Quality Management in Japan or Australia was proposed WASP's responsibility in Global Standardization in Quality Assurance was emphasized.
  9. Dr. Zeiler presented the proposed name addition of "and Laboratory Medicine" to be formally added to the title of "World Association of Societies of Pathology" with appropriate translations where necessary. The history of the problem of name change was presented and further discussion was entertained None was forthcoming. On formal motion and second, the addition of "and Laboratory Medicine" to the name of the organization was unanimously approved by the House of Delegates.
  10. The slate of candidates as developed by the Nominating Committee was presented. After discussion, it was unanimously agreed by the House of Delegates to allow additional nominations from the floor. Dr. Henry traverse was nominated for a position of Director at Large of the Bureau. Written ballots were counted under supervision of Dr. George Hoffman. The following list is of those elected:

  11. Dr. Mori again announced the addition of the Society of Biochemistry of Turkey to membership and introduced Dr. Turgan, Delegate of the Society who is attending the meeting with associates.
  12. Future Scientific Meetings.
    1. Germany (2001). Dr. Reinauer mentioned 21st WASP congress will be held in Dusseldorf on November 20 to 23, 2001.
    2. Korea (2003). Dr. Cho mentioned 22nd WASP Congress will be held in Seoul on August 19 - 23, 2003, at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul and another congress "6th Asian Congress of Clinical Pathology" will be held on October 12-14, 2000 in Pusan, Korea.
    3. Turkey (2005). No report.
    4. Malaysia (2007). The Malaysian Society of Pathologist is willing to accept 24th congress.

Note that the future of WASP in relation to WHO, IFCC, Global Health Network, Corporate Sponsors, and Brother's Brothers Foundation is as reported in the Bureau minutes of September 16, 1999.

No other business was brought before the House of Delegates, and meeting was adjourned at 13:00.
