The beginnings of the WASP actually go back to the early days of the Second World War. In 1943, at the suggestion of Dr. Sidney Dyke of the United Kingdom (UK), knowing full well that the Association of Clinical Pathologists in UK would agree, a new international body called the European Association of Clinical Pathologists was founded, represented by many distinguished clinical pathologists from 10 European countries. Soon after the end of the Second World War, more specifically during the Council Meeting of the European Association held on February 21, 1947, Dr Dyke, the President of the European Association, ambitiously proposed the European Association to be reconstituted as a world federation of national bodies.
