Tyra Hutchens, Former WASPaLM President, Dies
Dr. Tyra T. Hutchens, President of WASPaLM from 1989-1991 passed away on August 14, 2016 at the age of 94. A fourh generation resident of the state of Oregon in the United States, Dr. Hutchens earned his bachelor's degre from the University of Oregon in 1942 and graduated with his MD from the same school in 1945. He served two years in the United States Navy and returned to Oregon to pursue his interests in nuclear medicine. He was appointed chair of the Department of Clinical Pathology at Oregon and retired from that position in 1987. During his tenure he persued establishing ethical and regulatory standards for the profession of clinical pathology both nationally and internationally. He served as President of the World Pathology Foundation from 1988 to 1989. He was also president of the College of American Pathologists from 1976 to 1977.
Dr. Hutchens is survived by his wife of 74 years, Betty Lou, three children, three grandchildren and four great-granchildren.
