2nd Latin American Forum for Accreditation of Clinical laboratories

The Forum was held on september 26th in Rio, Brazil, during the 37th Brazilian Congress of Clinical Pathology/Laboratory Medicine, and we counted with the participation of Dr.Kenneth McClatchey, president, and Dr.Marilene Melo, president-elect of WASPaLM. After reporting their experiences, difficulties and perspectives for the future, each Society from Latin America decided that they should organize its Commissions to both analize and adequate the regulations for accreditation. These Commisions are to work along with the presidency of the Latin American Association of Clinical Pathology (ALAPAC), and will have support of the brazilian Program for Accreditation of Clinical Laboratories (PALC). At the end of the Forum ALAPAC has released a resolution recognising the importance af accreditation as an instrument for quality management and to certify the quality of the medical laboratories in accordance with the international standards. Such document has been signed by representatives of Argentine, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Equador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguai.
