President’s Message

January 20, 2004

Dear Colleagues,

I want to thank Dr. Kenneth McClatchey for his hard work in WASPaLM during four years at the Bureau and now over the last five months as President. Unfortunately, we lost this great leader, great pathologist with a vision of better medicine practices worldwide.

I want to thank also Dr. Mikio Mori that made WASPaLM a stronger society with participation in all major international health organizations.

As the new President of WASPaLM, I want to thank as well all the directory of Constituent Societies involved in the teaching and practices of pathology and laboratory medicine throughout the world.

The Bureau is engaged through a very devoted action with the following goals:

1- To promote knowledge exchange in technical and administrative issues related to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using the website as a vehicle.
2- To promote strong partnerships with WHO, PAHO, CIOMS, NCCLS, HL-7 and other international societies, as a representative of Constituent Societies.
3- To increase representativeness of WASPaLM close to Constituent Societies, with regular communications.
4- To cooperate with efforts on Pathology and Laboratory Medicine standardization and accreditation programs all over the world.
5- To assure the importance of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as a tool to improve healthcare.
6- To stimulate population knowledge about important tests (Pap, PSA, HbA1C, etc) that can improve quality of life in a clear way through worldwide action.
7- To increase the number of Constituent Societies promoting WASPaLM and making it stronger.

Our success depends on a collaborative effort of sharing ideas and actions with a constant focus on better laboratory practices to the benefit of patients all over the world.

Always together,

Marilene Melo , M.D.
WASPaLM - President
